Kennametal Greenfield IPG Introduces Greenfield Tap & Die PM Plus Thread Mills

Augusta, Ga. - July 15, 2002 - Kennametal Greenfield IPG announced today its newest thread cutting innovation - Greenfield Tap & Die brand PM Plus thread mills, according to Dennis Greene, Kennametal Greenfield IPG threading products manager. "This new offering, which is made from powder metal material, delivers excellent performance at a fraction of the cost of carbide," said Greene. "The PM Plus material is much more durable than carbide as well, so the customer benefits from a much stronger tool."

Features and Benefits

• Helical flute design means less thread chatter;

• Helical design improves product finish and thread quality;

• Forgiving of slower spindle speeds;

• An end mill shank designed for better tool holding;

• Advanced TiAlN coating standard from stock.

"Thread mills allow users to thread high quality, precision holes in the same set up on the same machine, which reduces cost by eliminating offhand tapping and multiple tool set ups. Another advantage of thread milling is that it allows for 100% of thread height, where tapping usually allows only 65-75 percent," said Greene.

PM Plus thread mills are ideal for:

• Forming internal and external threads;

• Forming right and left hand threads;

• Forming inch threads #8 to 1" UNC and UNF;

• Forming external threads 32 UN to 8 UN;

• Forming pipe threads 1/16" to 6" NPT, NPTF and NPSM;

• Forming metric threads M4.5 to M24 internal and M4.5 to M250 external;

• Machine tools with helical interpolation capabilities;

• Thread specifications requires a special tap;

• Material that has proven difficult to tap and is less than 30 Rc.;

• Applications that require taper pipe threads;

• Applications where a special thread mill is required;

• Operations in which the CNC machine has limited SFM capability;

• Customers threading small lot sizes.

PM Plus thread mills are TiAlN coated and in stock ready to ship.
Greenfield Tap & Die is a brand of Kennametal IPG, a Kennametal company.
