Intrinsically Safe, Piezoelectric Pressure Sensors Satisfy Dynamic Pressure Measurement Requirements

August 5, 2002, Depew, NY - The Pressure Division of PCB Piezotronics, Inc., introduces a series of piezoelectric pressure sensors that have been certified as intrinsically safe for use in hazardous environments. Factory Mutual, CENELEC, and CSA approvals are available.

Two configurations, each supporting a variety of measurement ranges from 50 psi full scale to 5000 psi full scale, are available. The ICP® styles integrate built-in signal conditioning circuitry to support ease of use and long distance signal transmission capability. Charge mode styles include a short length of low-noise cable, along with an in-line charge converter, enabling the sensors to withstand higher temperature environments. Both types serve to measure dynamic pressure events, such as surges, pulsations, and spikes in liquid or gas medias.

The devices are useful for monitoring the performance of compressors, pumps, and gas turbines as well as detecting flow anomalies in piping systems. This information can contribute to system tuning for increasing efficiencies, trimming waste, and reducing costs and maintenance.
