320 Series Stearns® Brake Available with New Housing & Mounting Options
MILWAUKEE--July 10, 2002...The Stearns Division of Rexnord Corporation now is offering a steel brake housing and additional
mounting options for its 320 Series armature-actuated electric disc brake (AAB).
The 320 Series, a dynamic brake, is offered in three sizes. Size 1.2, with a static torque rating of 3 lb-in, is available with a mounting bolt circle of 2.5" or 2.62". Size 1.8, with static torque of 7 lb-in or 15 lb-in, is available with a standard 2.125" bolt circle, as well as a 3.5" bolt circle, with or without a 2.5" register, for 42C frame motors. Size 2.8, with 35 lb-in static torque, is available with a 3.5" bolt circle. All sizes can be ordered with a steel brake housing.
Additional options include a carrier ring friction disc, for
quiet operation; double "D" slotted friction disc to eliminate the need for a brake hub; internal maintained (locking) manual
release lever; non-maintained (deadman) manual release; and 115 or 230 VAC input line rectifiers.
The 320 Series commercial duty brakes typically are used on small gearmotors and also may be used to replace Stearns Series
001 and 103 solenoid-actuated brakes. Other torque ratings are available upon request, depending on application requirements.
The armature-actuated brake design is direct-acting, with only two moving parts. In operation, when electrical power is applied, the armature is pulled by the electromagnetic force in the magnetic body assembly, which overcomes spring action. This
allows the friction disc to rotate freely. When electrical power
is interrupted, the electromagnetic force is removed, and the
pressure spring mechanically forces the armature plate to clamp
the friction disc between itself and the pressure plate. This
develops the torque needed to stop or hold the load.
