Stratos Lightwave Announces RJ Format Optical Transceivers Compliant with the New Infiniband Communications Standard

Palm Bay, FL--Stratos Lightwave, Inc. is announcing the availability of RJ Format optical transceivers for use with the new InfiniBand communications standard. Operating at 2.5Gb/s, these transceivers--and this new communications standard--are intended to provide better input/output performance in heavy-traffic environments such as servers, remote storage devices, and within multi-processor systems.

Stratos offers these InfiniBand high-density RJ Format optical transceivers in two new form factors: A single-port and quad-port RJ-style package are available with duplex LC connector interfaces at each port. Each package style will be available for 850nm VCSEL multimode optical fiber applications with link distances up to 250 meters, and 1310nm Fabry-Perot Laser single mode optical fiber applications for link distances up to 10 kilometers. These RJ Format optical transceivers exhibit exceptionally low levels of jitter over the full Bellcore / Telcordia operating temperature range of –40° to +85°C enabling their use in rough service industrial or outdoor applications.

Stratos RJ Format InfiniBand transceivers address the demand for increased port density in optical networking infrastructure equipment by delivering twice the port density of current industry standard removable transceivers. These innovative modules use multi-die hybrid technology to integrate a complete optical transceiver into a package the size of an industry standard RJ-45 housing alone. They will enable OEM customers to design network equipment with increased levels of port density while maintaining the traditional levels of performance and reliability required for high performance server and storage systems. Stratos RJ Format InfiniBand transceivers use a standard LC fiber optic interface, and are packaged in a metal shielded housing for industry-leading emissions and thermal management performance.

Stratos RJ Format InfiniBand transceivers are available from stock, in production quantities. Pricing varies depending on form factor specified, options requested, and quantities ordered. Typical pricing is under $100.00 each in large quantities. For additional information contact: Stratos Lightwave, Florida Inc., 1450 Treeland Boulevard, Palm Bay, FL USA 32909. Stratos Lightwave, Inc. (NASDAQ: STLW) develops, manufactures and sells optical subsystems and components for high data rate networking, data storage, and telecommunications applications. These optical subsystems are used in local area networks (LANs), storage area networks (SANs), metropolitan area networks (MANs), wide area networks (WANs), and the telecommunications market. The company also designs, manufactures, and sells a full line of optical components and cable assemblies for use in these networks. Stratos Lightwave was recently named to Deloitte & Touche's prestigious "Fast 50" Program for Greater Chicagoland--for the second year in a row. This is a ranking of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in the area, based on five-year revenue growth from fiscal year 1996 through fiscal year 2001.
