Moving stepper forcer suits applications with acceleration from 0.5–1.5 m/sec and payloads of <1 kg. While operation is possible under open loop control using 2-phase microstepping driver, stage can also be operated under closed-loop using linear encoder and motion control electronics package.

Stage operates under closed loop position control, is driven by 3 NCC series moving coil type linear actuators guided by parallel air bearing shafts, and includes 1 micron resolution linear encoder on each axis. Each voice coil has 0.80 in. stroke and generates 35 lb continuous force (105 lb peak).

Each axis incorporates 1 micron resolution linear encoders for position feedback. Bottom axis has 1.75 in. stroke and generates 5.1 lb of force at 100% duty, while top axis has 2.75 in. stroke and generates 2.7 lb of force at 100% duty. Stages are driven by brushless linear motors which are guided by recirculating linear ball bearing blocks and rails.

Two-phase, bi-polar micro-stepping drive features supply voltage of 20–50 Vdc, selectable output current from 1.0~4.2 A peak, pulse input frequency up to 200 kHz, and selectable resolutions up to 25,000 steps.
