HOUSTON, – Zahroof Valves Inc. (ZVI), established with a focus on improving the performance of reciprocating compressors, today announced it was a recipient of the prestigious 2016 Edison Award™ in the category of "Carbon Reduction."
The 2016 award winners were announced this past April 21st at the Edison Awards Gala in New York City, NY. There, Zahroof Valves was chosen as a Bronze award winner for its innovative Zahroof StraightFlo Valve (SFV) Valve used in reciprocating compressors. Because of its patented Modular Reed Valve design, gas flows straight through the valve with very little losses. The result is better efficiency resulting in lower fuel consumption and engine emissions. The SFV is much more reliable than conventional valves minimizing unscheduled shutdowns and resulting in less down-time and 2 – 5x greater intervals between valve related servicing of the compressor. This directly reduces the amount of gas emissions into the atmosphere due to the venting, blowdown and purging of the compressor and pipes required at every compressor service.

Applications include gas production, gas gathering, gas transmission, gas injection, EOR using CO2, propane compression for refrigeration and railroad applications, CNG fueling stations and air drilling. The Modular Reed Valve technology is being used in the ARPA-E MOVE project by Oregon State University on selectively repurposing one cylinder of an automobile engine running on compressed natural gas (CNG) to be used as a compressor for home refuelling.
