Xiris WI2000 Tube and Pipe Weld Inspection: Now Equipped for ERW Mills!

To expand the application of the equipment to ERW welding production, our engineers have been working around the clock to improve the WI2000 software to inspect for even more defects, specifically those found in ERW welded tube and pipe processes.
The newest software update for the WI2000 will expand the types of defects that can be caught in ERW welding processes, explained in detail below.
First and foremost, the left and right angle of the weld bead cap can now be measured. These are critical measurements to infer the level of squeeze pressure exerted on the tube prior to and during the fusing of the weld. If the pressure is too high or low, the angle generated will change beyond a tolerable limit.
In addition, the bead ratio has been added. The bead ratio is calculated by the bead height compared to the thickness of the material. This is an important measure of the size of the weld cap relative to the wall thickness of the tube, a critical parameter to control to ensure quality ERW weld production.
All of these new detected defects can cause severe impacts on weld quality, brand reputation and overall ROI on the equipment.
