X-Fest Technical Seminars Receive High Marks for Delivering What Engineers Want

PHOENIX and SAN JOSE, Calif., May 3: Avnet Electronics Marketing (NYSE:AVT) and Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX) today reported extremely positive feedback from design engineers, managers, and system architects attending their global X-Fest technical seminars. Attendees overwhelmingly agree on the value of the highly technical content and focused workshops. X-Fest, a series of technical seminars offering practical, how-to training around system level design for FPGA, DSP and embedded systems designers, runs worldwide through July 13 in locations throughout Europe, Asia, Japan and North America.

The companies recently kicked off their North American series in Salt Lake City with the San Jose event slated for today. By series end, X-Fest will have visited 90 cities worldwide. For complete program and registration information, visit http://em.avnet.com/xfest07.

"Our vision for X-Fest is to deliver detailed, real-world system design concepts that would apply directly to the challenges and experiences of working engineers. The positive feedback we are getting from our customers in California, Boston and locations throughout North America confirms that they derive huge value from the very unique multi-vendor, technical format that X-Fest uses," said Tim Barber, vice president of global Xilinx marketing for Avnet Electronics Marketing.

X-Fest Attendee Feedback

"While many vendor conferences only provide high-level marketing overviews of products, X-Fest differentiates itself by providing in-depth examples and live demos of design flows," said Rich Cagley, a wireless systems group leader at Toyon Research Corporation. "It is a great opportunity for engineers and managers to determine specifically what tools they need for their application development."

"As a firmware engineer, the 90-minute session on debugging Xilinx embedded processors was very detailed and will be really useful for the work I do," said Bruce Beeston, firmware engineer at ClearOne Communications in Salt Lake City, Utah. "The live demo of Xilinx ChipScope Pro analyzer debug tool showed how it can view any internal signal for a Xilinx hard or soft processor, and it can take snapshots of the circuit at different times, which is a really powerful way to see what's actually happening inside a design. Attending X-Fest also allowed me to network with other engineers in my area and also to see what the other IC suppliers are offering in relation to Xilinx FPGAs."

"X-Fest was a truly a great investment of a day," said Michael Jeanes, design engineer at Advanced Media Design in southern California. "The X-Fest presenters were very knowledgeable senior people, and the technical topics they delivered lined up very well with our current design projects. The four classes I attended in the DSP track were extremely detailed and the mini trade show format of X-Fest provided lots of time for networking one-on-one with other engineers and suppliers."

"The classes at X-Fest did a great job of explaining and demonstrating the power of the design tools available to automate and accelerate a Xilinx FPGA design," said Antonio Cassala, a senior electrical design engineer at Gerber Scientific Products. "The examples used during the technical sessions were very applicable to real-world designs and helped to demonstrate how versatile and capable the devices and the tool sets have become. These solutions will be very useful for the products we build here at Gerber."
