Welding & Gases Today Examines FDA Compliance Training

Effective training helps gases and welding distributors with FDA compliance.

Dewitt, NY - One of the best ways a distributor can improve its FDA compliance is through effective training. GAWDA's FDA & Medical Gases Consultant Thomas L. Badstubner outlines the steps to FDA compliance in "Improve Your FDA Compliance." His article appears in the Summer 2011 issue of Welding & Gases Today, the leading magazine for the gases and welding equipment industry.

The FDA regulations require drug manufacturing firms to conduct two types of training: function-specific training (also required by DOT) and Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) Training (including your SOPs). "The lack of documented cGMP training is one of the most often cited violations we observe," says Badstubner. "Moreover, training can be one of the easiest compliance items to correct." Also, effective training can actually improve a company's operations by reducing errors and increasing efficiency.

There are several tools available to members of the Gases and Welding Distributors Association (GAWDA) to aid in FDA compliance. Along with FDA technical support from GAWDA's consultants, GAWDA offers monthly online cGMP seminars and the GAWDA Medical Gas Program. GAWDA's Safety Committee also developed a personnel training record that can be used to document FDA compliance training.
