Vishay Siliconix P-Channel Load Switches With Integrated Slew-Rate Control For 1.5V to 5-V Applications Receive analogZONE "Product of the Year" Award

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA February 2, 2007 Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced that its SiP4280A and SiP4282 families of p-channel load switches have been honored with an analogZONE (www.analogzone.com) 2006 "Product of the Year" award in the category of Best Innovation in Load Switches.

The SiP4280A and SiP4282 devices are optimized for high-side operation in 1.5V to 5V load-switching applications. For maximum space savings, the SiP4282 offers typical on-resistance of 140 mW(TM) at 5 V and 175 mW(TM) at 3 V in the tiny SC-75 package. For applications requiring lower on-resistance but allowing more board space, the SiP4280A offers typical on-resistance of 80 mW(TM) at 5 V and 100 mW(TM) at 3 V in the 6-pin SOT-23 package.

Both load switches offer robust power-handling capacity while ensuring efficient use of battery power. Integrated slew-rate control allows the devices output voltage to be ramped up more or less gradually, so designers of handheld products can conserve space by using smaller power-supply capacitors to handle the current sags and surges encountered in the load-switching application.

"There are plenty of load switches available, many from Vishay themselves but also from the likes of Fairchild, AnalogicTech, Micrel and ON Semi; but none of them, that I know of, have gone this route controlling the turn on-slew rate," noted Paul McGoldrick, analogZONE editor in chief. "This is achieved with a feedback monitoring from the output to the gate control of the p-channel MOSFET. The principal advantage of such a system is that with a limited inrush current, the size of the input capacitor can be dramatically reduced or even eliminated in some lower current applications."

Product of the Year award winners were selected from those reviewed throughout the year by analogZONE's McGoldrick and Section Editor Lee Goldberg, with specific emphasis on the product's performance, anticipated market success, and likely contribution to the field of analog engineering and product design.

The SiP4280A and SiP4282 p-channel load switches are used to turn on and turn off the power for the display, speakerphone, memory cards, and other such functions in portable electronic systems such as cell phones, digital still cameras, hot-swap power supplies, notebook computers, and PDAs.
