Vig Honored with Frank Yaggie Award

Yankton, S.D. –  Yankton area business leader Joe Vig was honored at the Yankton Chamber of Commerce annual banquet with the Frank Yaggie Award for outstanding civic and business engagement.

Vig, who serves as president of Kolberg-Pioneer, Inc. (KPI-JCI) and group vice president of KPI-JCI and Astec Mobile Screens, was recognized as a leader in the Yankton community for his many contributions.

“Joe’s leadership and commitment to the community, as well as his involvement with local groups and organizations, made him the hands-down winner for this year’s Frank Yaggie Award,” said Carmen Schramm, director of member services for the Yankton Chamber of Commerce. “We are truly blessed to have Joe in Yankton. He has helped make Yankton what it is today.”

The award is in remembrance of Frank Yaggie, who was born and raised in Yankton and served as president of the Yankton Area Chamber of Commerce in 1948. He also served on the board of directors for the Yankton School Board and Sacred Heart School, as well as the Mount Marty College Board of Trustees. Later in life, Yaggie became well-known for his contribution to Yankton as a sculptor, creating the iconic Riverboat Captain Grant Marsh statute, which stands in the courtyard by the replica of the Dakota State Territorial Capitol.

The award is given to a person or organization that exemplifies the qualities of Frank Yaggie, Schramm said. “They should be active in civic responsibilities to the community, a successful business person, and a huge supporter and promoter of Yankton,” Schramm said.

Vig is an active member of the Yankton community. As a strong supporter of the Yankton Baseball Association, he served on the board for many years, lending his time, talent and financial resources to the organizations. He has also been active in the Yankton Morning Optimist Club, Build Yankton’s Bridge Committee, Yankton Basketball, Inc., Yankton Area Progressive Growth, Hillcrest Golf and Country Club and Trinity Lutheran Church.

In addition to his community activities, Vig has also been a leader in the aggregate and concrete industry for almost 40 years, and is past chairman of the Manufacturers Services Division of the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association and on the Board of Directors for the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce. Previously, he has served as a Product Safety Committee co-chairman for the Association of Equipment Manufacturers, member of the U.S. Committee on Large Dams, and past president of the American Concrete Institute- Dakota chapter.
