Vestel Selects Broadcom's European Digital TV Solution

Broadcom's Technology Features Worldwide Compatibility

BERLIN, Sept. 2 - IFA 2010 -- Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ: BRCM), a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, today announced that Vestel has selected Broadcom® system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions for a new line of DVB-T/S-based high definition televisions (HDTVs) that will be demonstrated at this week's IFA 2010 show in Berlin. Included in Vestel's selection is Broadcom's highly integrated and advanced BCM3556 digital TV (DTV) SoC solution, the BCM4505 DVB-S2 advanced modulation satellite receiver SoC, and BCM4323x Intensi-fi® XLR 802.11n Wi-Fi® media devices.

Highlights/Key Facts:

o Vestel, one of Turkey's largest home and professional appliances
manufacturing companies, holds significant share in the consumer
electronics market (including televisions) in Europe.
o Designed for worldwide compatibility, the Broadcom BCM3556 video
decoder SoC enables superior picture quality, high performance and a
host of features to greatly enhance the consumers' entertainment
experience.
o Key features include an advanced video decoder, 3D graphics core
and support for either WXGA or 1080p high definition (HD)
resolutions.
o Supports global connectivity standards such as a digital video
broadcast-terrestrial (DVB-T) demodulator, phase alternating line
(PAL), sequential color with memory (SECAM) video support, and
near instantaneous compounded audio multiplex (NICAM) audio
support.
o Supports advanced home network connectivity with an integrated
Ethernet media access controller (MAC) and physical layer (PHY)
device that enables the chip to connect with multiple home
networking devices such as media servers, PCs, and MP3 and
portable media players. As a result, users can share and stream
digital music, photos and movies and broadcast content to and from
connected TVs.
o The highly integrated BCM4505 satellite receiver solution features an
integrated CMOS tuner and advanced modulation decoder that support
DVB-S2 broadcast, DVB-S, QPSK and 8PSK applications.
o The BCM4323x includes both the BCM43235 and BCM43236 and delivers the
highest SoC-level integration available in the market today with fully
integrated radio transceivers. The BCM43235 supports the latest
generation 2x2 2.4GHz-only solution for entry level Wi-Fi connectivity
required by current data applications. The BCM43236 supports a 2x2
dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) solution for high resolution video
streaming applications.
o Vestel is leveraging Broadcom's wireless devices to support the
performance levels required by segment for their latest DTV product
portfolio. From unparalleled video over Wi-Fi performance on the
high-end to basic connectivity enabling the growing number of
media-over-Wi-Fi applications, Broadcom delivers the required target
performance while driving down the size and total cost of the wireless
solution.

Murat Sarpel (M.Sc.EEE), General Manager, R&D, Vestel Group of Companies
"As a leading provider of televisions in Europe, we are focused on meeting consumer demand for TVs with high performance, superior picture quality and advanced features. We look forward to working with Broadcom to meet this demand and deliver superior televisions to Europe."

Paul Gray, Director TV Electronics Research, DisplaySearch
"Digital TV in Europe is forecast to grow rapidly in 2010 and 2011, as analog switch-off programs complete in countries most dependent on broadcast reception. At the same time, free to air HD broadcasts are launching in 11 European countries this year, with rapid expansion of coverage in 2011. There was significant growth in 2009 with consumers encouraged by economic recovery in Eastern Europe and analog switch-off projects in Spain, Italy, France and the UK. There are plenty of new features underpinned by rapidly expanding HD services. DisplaySearch estimates that 57 million TVs will be sold in Europe in 2010, up 18 percent on 2009, with almost 61 million expected to ship in 2011."

Dan Marotta, Executive Vice President & General Manager, Broadcom's Broadband Communications Group
"We are committed to developing highly integrated and advanced TV technology that supports worldwide compatibility and standards, and the new line of Vestel TVs will deliver high-quality home entertainment to consumers."
