Valero Energy Taps Skf® For Pump Reliability Services

Valero Energy Corporation, the largest refiner in North America, has signed a contract with SKF® for Integrated Maintenance Services (IMS) at the Valero Paulsboro Refinery located in Greenwich Township, NJ. With this agreement, Valero extends the application of performance-based contracts from mechanical seals to pumps in an effort to further optimize asset management.

According to Valero, goals include reduced operating expenses and maximized use of resources by reducing the cost of spare parts for pump repairs and the associated inventory and carrying costs. Other objectives include increasing pump availability and uptime and freeing company engineering resources.

Under the contract, SKF will staff the Paulsboro Refinery on-site with one full-time reliability engineer and two full-time reliability technicians. SKF also will provide "on-demand" resources as needed for reliability-related projects, such as training, engineering, root cause failure analysis, and reliability centered maintenance, and will supply condition monitoring hardware and software technology.
