Utah Business Leader Appointed to Council of State Bioscience Associations' Executive Committee

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) announced that Richard Nelson, president and CEO of the Utah Technology Council, has been appointed to the Executive Committee of the Council of State Bioscience Associations (CSBA), an autonomous council operating within BIO.

As an Executive Committee member, Nelson will be representing the interests of CSBA members within his region of the country - comprising Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Utah.

"BIO works closely with CSBA member organizations to improve understanding of the bioscience industry and advocate for policies that help promote industry development throughout the United States," said Patrick Kelly, Vice President of State Government Relations and Alliance Development at BIO. "Through the recent economic downturn, this network has played the instrumental role of working with state legislatures in addressing the need for continued investment in the growth of this high-paying, jobs-producing industry."

The CSBA is a confederation of 47 state-based, non-profit trade organizations, each governed by its own board of directors. The mission of the CSBA is to promote public understanding, and to advocate for public policies that support the responsible development of the bioscience industry. These groups are recognized by BIO as affiliate organizations in their respective states.
