Uncertainty Slows Economic Growth

Arlington Heights, IL USA-The Air Movement and Control Association International, Inc. (AMCA) released a Quarterly Forecast Newsletter for the third quarter of 2006 written by consulting economist, Hans Zigmund. Although uncertainty continues to plague the U.S. economy, the industry appears to have a healthy outlook through the early part of 2007.

Volatile energy prices and a soft housing market are among the chief concerns of economists in the second half of 2006. Whether or not this economic slow down will be a soft landing or something rougher is still undeterminable. It is more likely that the economy will simply slow down and markets will correct as prices adjust setting the stage for future growth. Business investment plus government spending should be enough to help the economy weather the storm.

Although gains of great magnitude are not expected in the future, it is expected that the non-residential sector of the economy will continue to remain strong for at least the next 6 to 12 months. Most believe this is due to the current levels of investment that were made before housing markets softened, and/or gasoline prices spiked.
While forecasts for bookings and shipments are optimistic for the remainder of 2006, the industry is also looking forward to a healthy outlook through the early part of 2007.
