U.S Army And Enviance Deploy First Complete Greenhouse Gas Management System For Army Installation

Internet-based Compliance Management System Powers Efforts to Reduce Department of Defense's Carbon Footprint

CARLSBAD, CA - June 9, 2008 - Enviance, the leading provider of Internet-based, on-demand systems for the management and automation of environmental, health and safety (EHS) compliance activities, today announced that the U.S. Army has implemented the first real-time greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting and management system at the Fort Carson military base. Developed in conjunction with National Defense Center for Energy and Environment (NDCEE) to strengthen the environmental, energy, and transportation management of Federal agencies, the Enviance System allows Ft. Carson to monitor and track emissions stemming from internal facilities, military vehicles, and various remote activities, measure critical greenhouse gas reduction initiatives, manage associated tasks, and prepare concise reports on all activities relating to their carbon dioxide (CO2) footprint. The deployment is the first of many planned as the Department of Defense (DOD) takes steps to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions on a global scale.

The carbon footprint solution is an extension of the Enviance System that is currently used by several military bases to manage environmental compliancy. The Enviance System is an Internet-based service that allows facilities in the government, energy, utility, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries to centrally manage all aspects of regulatory compliance, in real-time, dramatically improving operations efficiency. Because the Enviance platform is based on software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, costs are kept low and integration is immediate since no additional software or hardware is required on the users end.

Incorporated into the Army's GHG footprint system are standardized, 'turnkey' protocols and procedures that will ensure consistency and conformity with established GHG protocols recommended by the World Resources Institute and other recognized organizations. The System allows Ft. Carson to set targets and support Executive Order 13423 compliance, which specifies 30 percent reductions in energy use and GHG emissions by 2015. In addition, Ft. Carson is able to develop scenarios to determine the impact of troop and family growth energy and GHG reduction programs, evaluate the infrastructure of their emission sources, and gauge how alternative energy programs and future sequestration projects help offset overall GHG emissions.

"The U.S. Army's adoption of the GHG management system conveys a high level of environmental leadership on one of the most significant issues affecting the world today," stated Lawrence Goldenhersh, president and CEO of Enviance. "We feel very fortunate to have worked with both Ft. Carson and NDCEE on new ways to measure the impacts of the military's energy consumption. Our Army has done an outstanding job protecting the people for so many years, it's only fitting that they are taking an active role protecting the environment as well."

Because the Enviance System is Internet based, it can be replicated easily at other Army bases, including near term deployment at Ft. Benning - allowing the U.S. Army to develop a comprehensive strategy based on the GHG metrics from which to measure future progress.

Enviance solutions have been successfully deployed in 45 countries serving over 10,000 users. Recently, the company was dubbed by a third party independent research group as the market's only Internet-based environmental, health and safety compliance management platform.
