TRFA Announces Winner of Excellence in Thermoset Polymer Research Award

Glen Ellyn, IL-"The Thermoset Resin Formulators Association (TRFA) has announced that Krishna C. Etika of Texas A & M University's College of Engineering is the winner of its first Excellence in Thermoset Polymer Research Award. Etika, who is a doctoral candidate in the university's Materials Science and Engineering Program, submitted "Utilization of Clay-Carbon Nanoparticle Synergy for Enhancing Electrical and Mechanical Properties of Epoxy Composites." Formal presentation of the award will be at TRFA's 2010 Annual Meeting September 12-14 at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas.

TRFA initiated the award for student researchers to encourage and recognize advances in the science & engineering of thermosetting polymers. In addition, the association believes the award can provide the recipient with visibility and exposure in the industry. The annual Excellence in Thermoset Polymer Research Award consists of: a $500 cash award and an award plaque; an invitation to present the paper at the TRFA annual meeting with complimentary registration; a one-night accommodation for the winning student at the TRFA meeting's hotel/venue (valued @ ~$200) with an additional travel allowance of up to $500; and posting of the winning paper on TRFA's website.

Ten research papers were submitted for the award competition, each one related to Thermoset Polymer Science & Technology. Eligible students must be BS, MS, & PhD candidates at an accredited college/university (in USA + Canada).

In addition to the research award, TRFA invites students to present posters showcasing research work in the field of composites, coatings, adhesives, molding or related thermosetting polymer technologies. The poster competition takes place at the TRFA Annual Meeting during the Table Top Showcase and Reception. Registration to the Table Top Showcase is complimentary for all students participating in the poster competition. Participating students have the opportunity to network with representatives of some of the most important suppliers to the thermoset/polymer industry. The 2010 Competition will be Monday, September 13 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at TRFA's 2010 Annual Meeting, September 12-14 at the Hyatt Regency San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas.

TRFA has already established a Resume Board to post positions and resumes, as well as a professional membership category for Universities. To learn more about these TRFA benefits, please visit the website, www.trfa.org.
