Thermo Fisher Among Top-10 Fastest Growing Companies in China

WALTHAM, Mass.-- Jan. 26, 2009--Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (NYSE: TMO), the world leader in serving science, announced it was recently named one of the "Top-10 Fast Growth Companies in China" by Business Watch magazine, a bi-weekly Chinese-language business publication.

Thermo Fisher was recognized for its double-digit growth in China during the past few years, as well as its ongoing expansion plans for the region. Other award winners included IBM, Google, ABB and Dow. An award committee made up of Chinese entrepreneurs, investors, managers, editors and government officials ranked companies that have a significant presence in the country.

"Our ongoing investments in China have led to strong growth for us in the region, and we are proud to receive external recognition for our commitment to serving our customers in that market," said Marijn E. Dekkers, president and chief executive officer of Thermo Fisher Scientific. "Many years ago, we recognized the growth potential that China represented. We continue to invest in infrastructure, resources and staff to meet the demands of our customers there in growing markets such as life sciences, environmental monitoring and food safety."

This is the second recent award highlighting Thermo Fisher for its long commitment to, and early participation in, the China market. In November, Thermo Fisher received the "Reform and Opening 30 Years; Multi-National Corporation Award" from China Enterprise News, a daily Chinese newspaper, for its 20-year commitment to the China market. In addition to driving strong sales during this time, the company was recognized for its contributions to the local economy through donations for emergencies such as the earthquakes in 2008, as well as testing and analysis capabilities used in the Beijing Summer Olympics.

Thermo Fisher Scientific has had a direct presence in China since the mid 1980s, and in recent years has accelerated its expansion. The company began manufacturing products in China in 2000 and, in 2005, opened a state-of-the-art demonstration laboratory in Shanghai. These facilities are in addition to field-based application specialists located across the country. More recently, Thermo Fisher announced that its senior leadership for the Environmental Instruments business will be based in Shanghai. In China today, Thermo Fisher Scientific has 5 plants and approximately 1,000 employees.
