The Wireless Innovation Forum Selects EB's Specialized Device Platform as Finalist for the Technology of the Year Award

Winner to be announced on November 29, 2011 at SDR'11 - WInnComm

OULU, Finland - EB, Elektrobit Corporation (NASDAQ-OMX: EBC1V), a developer of cutting- edge embedded technology solutions for automotive and wireless industries, today announced that its Specialized Device Platform has been chosen as a finalist for The Technology of the Year by the Wireless Innovation Forum Awards. Winners will be announced at this year's conference on Communications Technologies and Software Defined Radio (SDR'11 - WInnComm).

The Technology of the Year award is presented to an individual or organization for a breakthrough product or technology in the Software Defined or Cognitive Radio space. In August of this year, EB launched its Specialized Device Platform, an Android-based mobile platform targeting vertical markets such as, Public Safety, Security and Defense among others. Further, by leveraging mass market mobile device hardware/software technologies and economies of scale, organizations get a 'made-to-order' mobile device that incorporates key design features required to meet specific industry functional and/or performance requirements. For example, defense vendors can specify MIL-STD-810G mechanics for a ruggedized Android handset, integration of a proprietary security engine or optimization of a proprietary software application to extend the device battery life.

"We are honored that our Specialized Device Platform is recognized as one of the top technologies of the year by the Wireless Innovation Forum," said Jani Lyrintzis, vice president, special terminals at EB. "With this device platform, EB can cater to the needs of specialized vertical market organizations interested in deploying mobile devices with extended product life cycles - yet still achieve solutions that are based on the latest technological advancements."

The platform is anchored by the Texas Instruments OMAP(TM) family of application processors, which appeals to the target vertical markets, and offers key technology features, such as: integrated cellular connectivity options including LTE with Band 14 support for the U.S. Public Safety market, integrated mobile satellite connectivity, a high-resolution touch-screen enabled display with superior sunlight readability, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and advanced battery and power management features.

Winners will be announced at SDR'11 - WInnComm on Tuesday evening, November 29 in Washington, D.C.

EB will present the EB Specialized Device Platform at the MILCOM 2011 tradeshow in Baltimore, MD, USA November 7th - November 10th, at Booth #1814. EB is further showcasing the EB Propsim F8 radio channel emulator, EB Tactical Wireless IP Network, EB Wideband COMINT Sensor, EB Counter RCIED Platform and EB Tough VoIP products.
