From 2D feature machining to 5-axis simultaneous milling, hyperMILL covers a wide range of machining strategies for diverse manufacturing tasks. At the OPEN MIND Technologies AG booth (D-3306), visitors to IMTS 2006 will have the chance to see exactly how flexible manufacturing can be with hyperMILL.
There will be more than 1,200 exhibitors at IMTS 2006 that is taking place at McCormick Place in Chicago from September 6 through 13. These exhibitors will be presenting the newest trends and developments from the metal processing trade. OPEN MIND Technologies will be presenting hyperMILL 9.5, the most recent version of its successful CAM software: not only with fascinating software demonstrations at its own booth (D-3306), but also at its partners' booths, DMG (A-8501). There will also be many machining demonstrations and display parts with other partners Breton (A-9310), EMUGE (E-2745), Hermle (A-8161), Makino (A-8301), Mikron (A-8535), and OMV (A-8050).
hyperMILL 9.5
If you want to be able to respond quickly and flexibly to changing requirements, you need a powerful CAM software system. This also means having access to a wide range of machining strategies. hyperMILL offers strategies for 2D, 3D, 3+2 and for 5-axis simultaneous machining under one user-friendly interface. The concept is enhanced with powerful specialised applications for multi-blade, single-blade and tube milling, all using the same straightforward user interface.
The greatly enhanced feature technology of hyperMILL 9.5 also helps standardise the programming of recurring or similar geometries. This is made possible by more flexible feature definitions. Whereas previously geometry information for typical 2D machining steps such as holes and pockets was used as features, you can now use any characteristic geometry to automate the programming of recurring steps. A further important addition is that machining strategies and tools can be defined as macros. After definition, the macros are automatically assigned to the detected features.
Furthermore, the new hyperMILL 9.5 includes a new, advanced generation of collision control and avoidance techniques. In 5-axis simultaneous machining, tool positions can be automatically calculated without defining guide curves. All you need to enter is a preference angle. This is possible because collision checking now extends to the entire part.
CAD-integrated CAM solutions
Alongside integration in its own hyperCAD® CAD system, OPEN MIND Technologies is now offering full integration of the CAM system in Autodesk Mechanical® Desktop, Autodesk Inventor® and Pro/ENGINEER® Wildfire(TM). The integrated hyperMILL in Autodesk Inventor was recently certified for Autodesk Inventor 11.
The CAD-integrated CAM solutions offer advantages especially in the areas of user-friendliness, process safety and integrated process chains. Users can rely on a familiar working environment, facilitating the training phase and user acceptance. Both the CAD and the CAM systems access the same uniform database. Interface problems are also eliminated this way.
High-performance postprocessors
Postprocessors are the link between the CAM system on the one side and the machine and controller on the other. So as to ensure that the quality and performance of the CAM programs are not lost to the controller and the machine, OPEN MIND Technologies has developed postprocessors individually adapted to the machines, controllers and components used. In this way, for example, the controller's capabilities - control cycles, path correction, program part repetition and definable work planes - can be used more efficiently. Another consideration is that there are differences among machines of the same model, e.g. their table size or limits may vary. All this, as well as the range of manufacturing processes, is taken into account when developing postprocessors for each customer. The outcome: tailor-made solutions guaranteeing the best possible milling result.
