Tellabs and Intervid Sign Agreement for the Resale of Tellabs® Optical LAN in Australia

MELBOURNE, Australia -- Tellabs, a leading vendor of optical networking solutions, and Intervid, a provider of specialist security and communications solutions to the government, commercial and mining sectors in Australia, have signed an agreement for the resale of Tellabs(®) Optical LAN solution in the Australia market.

Under the agreement, Intervid will be an authorized channel partner within the Tellabs PartnerPlus Program for the Optical LAN solution, and will provide sales, system integration and maintenance support throughout Australia. While the Tellabs Optical LAN solution forms a major part of the deal, the reseller agreement covers all Tellabs' products, including packet optical solutions.

"Our agreement with Intervid will help Tellabs provide the advantages of Optical LAN to a new set of customers in Australia," says Ralph Candiloro, Tellabs vice president and general manager of APAC sales. "While Tellabs is an established vendor in the Australian telecom industry, we are looking to extend the benefits of Optical LAN to customers in enterprise vertical markets such as the oil, gas and mining sectors."

The Tellabs Optical LAN solution is founded on accepted industry standards-based passive optical networking technology. It saves up to 70% of the total cost of ownership, 80% of power requirements and 90% of space requirements while simplifying the underlying network infrastructure and operations. Optical LAN provides a highly reliable, scalable and secure network that delivers data, voice, video, wireless access, surveillance, security and building automation services on one platform. It is an alternative choice to legacy copper-based LANs, that meets tangible corporate sustainability goals with a modern high performance fiber optical infrastructure.

"Tellabs is a strategic partner for our system integration business. Partnership with Tellabs will allow us to participate in more sophisticated and higher value network deployments," said Sean McCoy, general manager for Intervid.

Under the terms of the deal, Intervid will be certified to offer a full planning, engineering, installation and commissioning service, in addition to after sales support, across the range of Tellabs solutions.
