Tektronix Rolls Out HDMI 2.0 Compliance Test and Debug Support

New Test Solution Enables New "4K" Video Monitor Technology for Fast, Consistent and Accurate Results

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Tektronix, Inc., the world's leading manufacturer of oscilloscopes, today announced that a new Method of Implementation (MOI) leveraging a fully automated compliance test and debug solution for the recently released HDMI 2.0 specification has been approved by the HDMI forum as the official compliance solution. The Tektronix solution provides comprehensive coverage of the required HDMI 2.0 transmitter and receiver electrical PHY tests to ensure consistent interoperability between suppliers in this fast-growing industry.

The successor to the widely adopted HDMI 1.4a/b standard, HDMI 2.0 is designed to meet the bandwidth requirements of forthcoming Ultra HD or 4K televisions while using existing cabling for backward compatibility. It significantly increases bandwidth to 18 Gbps and adds such features as 32 audio channels and simultaneous delivery of video and audio streams to multiple users. As with previous HDMI versions, compliance and debug test solutions are critical to ensuring successful implementation of the specification.

"As a contributor to the HDMI 2.0 test specification and one of the leading providers of HDMI test solutions globally, Tektronix is uniquely qualified to help our customers bring Ultra HD/4K televisions and other HDMI 2.0 certified products to market," said Brian Reich, general manager Performance Oscilloscopes, Tektronix. "This solution provides HDMI 2.0 compliance test support and addresses electrical test requirements with a simple and reliable environment that shortens time to market."

Compared to alternatives, the Tektronix HDMI 2.0 test solution reduces test set-up complexity through the use of new automation framework for Transmitter testing and a direct synthesis approach for Receiver testing that eliminates the need for additional equipment like cable emulators and noise stressors. With the Tektronix AWG70000 arbitrary waveform generators, engineers can produce required receiver test signals and specified impairments automatically using direct synthesis methods which reduce test setup time and additional instrument cost.

"With the new Tektronix HDMI 2.0 solution, Allion expects significant improvement in our HDMI test procedure," said Mr. Mishima, the engineering manager of High Speed Data Signal Testing Division, Allion Japan, Inc.

For designers and test engineers at consumer electronics manufacturers, semiconductor companies, and cable manufacturers, the Tektronix HDMI 2.0 solution consists of high-performance hardware and integrated software, fully supporting all physical layer testing for source and sink devices as well as cables. The full solution includes MSO/DPO/70000 series real-time oscilloscope, HDMI compliance testing software, AWG70000 series arbitrary waveform generators, DSA8300 sampling oscilloscope for time domain reflectometry (TDR), IConnect software for serial data network analysis, and test fixtures.
