Tantaline Teams up with Alloy Engineering

Alliance provides industrial markets with higher performing, lower priced corrosion resistant thermowells

WALTHAM, Mass. - September 9, 2009 - Tantaline®, the world's leading producer of tantalum surface alloys for valves, fittings, instrumentation, and custom products in hot acid environments, today announced a new alliance with Alloy Engineering Co., Inc., a leading manufacturer of thermowells for industrial applications. With this strategic alliance, Tantaline now offers the most corrosion resistant thermowells commercially available for applications that involve hot acids, including hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and other highly corrosive chemicals.

As part of the relationship, stainless steel thermowells manufactured and supplied by Alloy Engineering Co., Inc. are treated with Tantaline's innovative tantalum vapor technology to create a true tantalum surface alloy that is metallurgically alloyed to the stainless steel. The final Tantaline-treated thermowell has the same chemical properties and corrosion resistance as a pure tantalum thermowell and is available in any shape, size, and style, unlike tantalum jacketed thermowells. In addition, while the Tantaline-treated acid resistant thermowells have a corrosion resistance equal to pure tantalum thermowells, they are priced lower than nickel alloys (like Hastelloy®-C), titanium, and zirconium thermowells, providing engineers and manufacturers with a lower priced, higher performing, and more versatile alternative to specialty metals.

"The thermowell industry has long needed a product that can handle extreme environments, which are inherent with the use of corrosive chemicals along with complete design freedom. Our alliance with Alloy Engineering enables us to provide the highest quality and most corrosion resistant thermowells commercially available today on virtually any thermowell design, all at competitive prices," said Dean Gambale, president of Tantaline. "It is this set of attributes that gives Tantaline-treated thermowells a distinct performance advantage over specialty metals and tantalum jacket thermowells."

"By teaming with Tantaline, we are bringing together a leader in corrosion resistance technology with our 50-plus years of thermowell expertise," said Michael Carugati, vice president of sales and marketing for Alloy Engineering Co., Inc. "This ideal match delivers a high performing, corrosion resistant thermowell (including threaded and tapered designs) and helps us meet both the needs and the varying specifications of our customers."

Where to order:

Alloy Engineering's entire line of thermowells (in any size or quantity) is now available to be Tantaline-treated, including straight, tapered, threaded, flanged, Van Stone, and sanitary designs: www.tantaline.com/Thermowells-8.aspx.
