Speakers to Draw Roadmap for Sustainable Production of Biofuels, Bioplastics at BIO's Pacific Rim Summit



WASHINGTON, D.C. (Monday, August 25, 2008) - Business, academic and thought leaders will discuss how biotechnology enables sustainable production of biofuels and biobased products during the Pacific Rim Summit on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy, Sept. 10-12 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

A plenary session titled "Industrial Biotechnology: Enabling a Sustainable Future" will feature a discussion of how advanced biofuels can be produced to maximize both economic and environmental benefits. David Blume, founder of the International Institute for Ecological Agriculture and author of Alcohol Can Be a Gas! Fueling an Ethanol Revolution for the 21st Century, argues that increased production of biofuels around the world, using local, sustainable raw materials, is critical to addressing global food, feed and fuel challenges. John Sheehan, president of PAS, Inc., will discuss sustainability criteria for the biofuels industry.
