Strengthened Functions for MP1800 Signal Quality Analyzer Series

World-First 4-Channel Jitter Tolerance Test Measurement

MP1800 Series

Anritsu Corporation (President Hiromichi Toda) announced that it is taking orders from July 18 for its strengthened MP1800 series incorporating the MU181000B 12.5 GHz 4-port Synthesizer, MU181000A/B-001 Jitter[*1] Modulation Option, and the MX180005A Jitter Application Software, supporting Jitter Tolerance measurements for optical devices with up to four channels.

Using the MP1800 series with installed MU181000B, MU181000A/B-001, and MX180005A makes it easy to configure an automated system for measuring Jitter Tolerance of multi-channel CPU boards, PC boards, and optical devices forming interconnects in routers, servers, super computers, etc. Up to four channels can be measured in one-quarter the time of previous setups, greatly improving the efficiency Jitter Tolerance tests--which have been a measurement bottleneck in speeding-up interconnect compatibility tests.

The recent and increasing spread of rich-content distribution over the Internet is causing massive increases in data transfers, which is in turn driving demand for speed increases in the various types of equipment supporting the Internet, such as routers, servers, super computers, etc.

To assure compatible connections between CPU boards, PC boards, optical devices, etc., used in these communications equipment, design engineers must measure internal Skew[*2], Crosstalk[*3], Emphasis[*4] and Jitter. Since Jitter has the most serious impact on communications quality of service (QoS), measuring the Jitter Tolerance of each board and device is critical to assuring QoS. In addition, communications equipment is rapidly becoming multi-channel, requiring repeated and troublesome reconnection of single-channel measuring instruments to measure each channel separately, which greatly reduces the work efficiency of engineers and is becoming a major problem.

To meet this need, Anritsu has strengthened the functions of the MP1800 Signal Quality Analyzer series to support automatic multi-channel measurement of Jitter Tolerance of CPU boards, PC boards, optical devices, etc., forming interconnects in routers, servers, super computers, etc., and eliminating bottlenecks in speeding-up interconnect compatibility tests.

MP1800 Signal Quality Analyzer Series

The MP1800 Signal Quality Analyzer series (MP1800A/MT1810A) is a measuring instrument for optical transceivers and devices up to 12.5Gbit/s. In addition, using two MP1800A units as MUX/DEMUX and synthesizer combination supports BER tests up to 50 Gbit/s. As a result of the modular design, optional plug-in units matching the application can be installed in five slots in the main frame for easy configuration of a measurement solution customized for any need.

[Product Outline]

Installing the MU181000A 12.5 GHz Synthesizer, MU181000B 12.5 GHz 4-Port Synthesizer, MU181000A/B-001 Jitter Modulation Option, and MX180005A Jitter Application Software in the MP1800 series supports Skew, Crosstalk, Emphasis and Jitter Tolerance measurements of CPU boards, PC boards, optical devices, etc., forming interconnects in super computers, routers, servers, etc. In comparison to the single-port MU181000A, the MU181000B supports 4 ports, permitting simultaneous measurement of up to 4 channels and overcoming the Jitter Tolerance measurement bottleneck preventing speed-up of interconnect compatibility tests. Additionally, the Jitter Tolerance Go/No-Go evaluation functions of the MX180005A really show their value in cutting measurement times on production lines.

[Main Functions and Performance]

o Standards-Compliant Jitter Tolerance Measurement for up to 4 Channels

One MP1800A unit can output 4-channel data at any timing. Jitter up to 80 MHz can be added, and Jitter Tolerance measured in compliance with ITU-T, ANSI, IEEE, XFI, EI, etc., standards. Since the Jitter function is pre-calibrated, calibration is not required for every measurement, helping cut Jitter measurement times.

o Max. 1 GHz High-Speed Modulation and Random Jitter Generation

High-speed modulation up to 1 GHz using external input supports CDR[*5] (Clock and Data Recovery) Jitter Tolerance tests for genuine 10 Gbit/s R&D.

o Random Jitter Generation

Inputting a PRBS[*6] signal to the MU181000A/B-001 Jitter Modulation Option permits addition of CEI-compliant Jitter patterns. Since Jitter can be added using sine-wave, sawtooth, etc., modulation signals, Random Jitter (RJ) can be generated for testing the Jitter Tolerance of communications equipment.

o Automated Jitter Tolerance Measurement

The MX180005A Jitter Application Software has a Jitter Tolerance function for measuring the Jitter Tolerance margin as well as a standards-compliant Jitter Sweep function, supporting configuration of an automatic measurement system by selecting tests matching the application and greatly shortening measurement times.

o Increased Interconnects Compatibility Test Efficiency

Skew, Crosstalk, and Emphasis can be measured in addition to Jitter Tolerance, supporting configuration of a low-cost, compact, easy-to-use, efficient test system for verifying connection compatibility.
