Stratophase to Exhibit at BioTechnica 2011

SpectroSens(TM) Technology for Real-time Monitoring and Diagnostics to be showcased at Stand A28, Hall 9

Romsey, UK - Stratophase, innovators in real-time in situ monitoring and diagnostics, will be exhibiting and showcasing its unique SpectroSens(TM) optical microchip technology at Biotechnica 2011 (11th - 13th October). SpectroSens draws on Stratophase's expertise in fibre optic communications and solid state silicon device manufacture to create a powerful sensing tool for real-time, in-line monitoring and portable biological detection. The applications of this technology are diverse, including the optimisation of bioreactor processes such as those used in the biopharmaceutical manufacturing industry, as well as disease diagnosis by combining SpectroSens chips with highly specific immunoassay chemistry.

Stratophase has recently partnered with several well-known organisations such as the UK Ministry of Defence and a consortium consisting of GlaxoSmithKline, Green Biologics and the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) to test and validate SpectroSens in a diverse range of environments. These projects have identified that SpectroSens can provide a real-time, in-line liquid monitoring system to both improve the efficiency of production processes and provide rapid, on-site biodetection.

By using light to measure change, Stratophase's unique technology brings precision, flexibility and cost effectiveness to real-time monitoring and diagnostics. When used for bioreactor monitoring, the transfer of information via fibre optics provides speed and high signal fidelity. This approach also means that multiple sensors can be easily networked together, generating results from multiple bioreactors accessible via a single control unit situated up to hundreds of metres away if necessary. When employed in a biodetection environment, one disposable chip can be used to test multiple samples simultaneously, or several biological targets within a single sample. Such a range of features allow SpectroSens chips to provide a wealth of benefits, whatever the chosen application.
