Steelcase Leads in McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC) Cradle to Cradle(SM) Certifications

CHICAGO, Nov. 6 - To demonstrate the breadth of its sustainable product portfolio, Steelcase Inc. (NYSE:SCS), a global office environments manufacturer, is proud to exhibit more MBDC Cradle to Cradle(SM) certified products than any other company in its, or any, industry at this year's annual Greenbuild International Conference & Expo presented by the U.S. Green Building Council. Steelcase has earned a record of twenty-three Cradle to Cradle Certifications for a variety of architecture, furniture and technology products.

The Cradle to Cradle Product Certification process places major emphasis on the human and ecological health impacts of a material's ingredients, and focuses on the ability to recycle or safely compost that material. In addition to stringent material criteria, which includes prohibiting the use of PVC, companies seeking this certification are required to meet strict guidelines for social fairness and corporate practices and ethics.

"Steelcase continues to be among the leaders in the use of ecologically intelligent materials and cradle to cradle product design," said William McDonough, architect, designer and co-founder of McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry. "If the company's efforts were replicated across all of industry there would be a profound impact on our health and ecology."

Allan Smith, vice president, global environmental strategy and programs, Steelcase Inc. said, "Following standards set forth by the MBDC Cradle to Cradle certification reaffirms Steelcase's commitment to sustainability and we plan to add more certified products to Steelcase's offering. The industry currently lacks robust and uniform standards for sustainable decision making, and we feel strongly that MBDC Cradle to Cradle certification is a great starting point for designers, specifiers and customers looking for sustainable products for office environments."

Certified products on exhibit at Greenbuild include Amia(TM), Leap®, Think®, Move(TM), and Siento(TM) seating, the world's only Certified moveable wall - Pathways® Privacy Wall, and the world's only Certified workstations - Answer® and Montage®. Additionally, Designtex, a Steelcase company, will be exhibiting four Certified fabrics and one Certified wallcovering. PolyVision, a Steelcase company, is exhibiting the only product in the world that has received global Certification - E3 markerboard, and Nurture, a Steelcase company, is exhibiting its Certified healthcare fabric. All products are on display at Greenbuild from November 7-9, 2007 at McCormick Place West Building, booth 812.
