Speedline's Unique Open Apps Interface (OAI), Portal to Industry 4.0, to Be Featured at NEPCON China (Shanghai) and SMT Hybrid Packaging (Nuremberg)

Franklin, Massachusetts, USA – Speedline Technologies' unique patent-pending Open Apps, a revolutionary new 'open architecture' machine communications and control system, will be featured at the upcoming NEPCON China exhibition, Shanghai, in Stand B-1E20, April 21 – 23, and later at SMT Hybrid Packaging, Nuremberg, Germany, May 5 – 7, 2015. Open Apps is a portal to the emerging Industry 4.0 'Smart Factory' vision and its advanced communications, functionality, and concepts in the value chain organization. With Speedline's powerful Open Apps enabling feature, customers and third parties now have the option of developing their own apps and using them on their automated printing machines and dispensers while directly integrating with their Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for unheard-of levels of process optimization, flexibility, communication, and integration.

The Speedline Open Apps Interface (OAI) provides the operator with detailed machine state and process information, including gate product entry and exit from machine; empowers the operator to control process changeover; provides process verification and validation, and can communicate with the operator at the machine in real time. In development for several years and now being proven in a number of customer facilities, Speedline's groundbreaking OAI is inches away from final patent approval status.

Open Apps also interfaces directly with the user's MES to enable product traceability, verify machine setups, and effects routing plan decisions. OAI also collects process data through Speedline's Printrack™ traceability and verification system. The most exciting feature of Open Apps is its ability to empower users to create their own apps and apply them to their manufacturing process. "It's the enabler or portal , if you will, into the world of Industry 4.0," states Mark Clemons, Business Unit Manager, Printers. "There's nothing else like it out there. Customers or third parties can create their own apps, and Speedline has in place a stellar support group of process and software support engineers ready to assist the customer in that personalized apps process development."

"In fact, when it comes to talking about the MES, Speedline's OAI is a direct communications pipeline into the customer's MES. OAI serves as a translator between the customer's MPM printer or Camalot dispenser and their MES," Clemons adds. "It will communicate with the MES via any network technology; it's the fastest communication method available and it's true bi-directional communication."
