Solid-State Encoder Manufacturer RLS Triples in Size

Renishaw associate company's success with solid-state encoders drives growth.

Hoffman Estates, IL- Renishaw associate company RLS d.o.o. has tripled the size of its facilities in Slovenia with a move to a new facility, custom built to expand its design and manufacturing operations. The new 2,100 m2 building in Komenda, Slovenia, includes a 180 m2 clean room conforming to ISO 8 and equipped with electro conductive flooring, enabling a significant expansion to the design and manufacturing capability of RLS.

The grand opening of the new facility was attended by senior members of the Renishaw Board, the Mayor of the city of Komenda, partners from the Jozef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana and the University of Ljubljana, and long-term suppliers and customers.

Janez Novak, Director of RLS, said: "We are drafting further company growth based on our own products, good manufacturing capabilities and solid cooperation with Renishaw. In the coming period, our company is going to invest a lot of effort in our excellence in engineering and our quality system, particularly because some of our products are designed for demanding, safety-critical applications."

Sir David McMurtry, Renishaw's Chairman and Chief Executive, congratulated Novak and the RLS staff on what has been achieved with the new facility and added, "It has been a joy and a pleasure for me to visit RLS again and meet with the staff - they are absolutely amazing. I am delighted how the company is growing, and driven by Janez, we are expecting a great future."

RLS is a world leader in the design and manufacture of solid-state encoders for measuring speeds and rotary or linear position in the harshest applications. Its products are widely used in gas pumps, robots, oil-field equipment, subsea systems, construction machinery, medical equipment, off-road vehicles and "smart" machines of all types. Besides motor feedback and positioning control, the magnetic encoders are used for torque sensing, flow control, scanning and instrumentation.

About RLS

Founded in Slovenia in December 1989, RLS (Rotary and Linear Motion Sensors) initially focused on providing solutions for a wide range of motion control and metrology applications. From 1998 the company started to specialize in the design and manufacture of magnetic encoders and associated components, which today are supplied worldwide through a network of distributors and direct to industrial companies.

In December 2000, Renishaw took a 50% shareholding in RLS d.o.o., allowing the former to benefit by widening its position encoder range, and giving RLS access to the distribution strength and applications experience of an established encoder supplier.

Today, the experience and knowledge of RLS, combined with Renishaw's innovative approaches and support, enable it to offer a market leading range of magnetic rotary encoders, magnetic linear encoders and magnetic ring encoders. It also retains a strong focus on custom product solutions, including ASICs which are found in a range of Renishaw's leading metrology products.
