SME Elects Nine to Its College of Fellows

Distinguished award recognizes members for their longtime careers and efforts in manufacturing

(DEARBORN, Mich.) — During its 2014 Fall Awards & Installation Banquet in Atlanta on Sunday, Nov. 9, SME recognized seven of the nine individuals who were elected to its 2014 Class of SME Fellows. These nine, from industry, government and academia, join the more than 360 members who have been elected an SME fellow since the programs’ inception in 1986.

Election as an SME fellow is limited to a select group of individuals each year, making it one of the most prestigious honors bestowed by SME. This recognition garners lifetime, dues-free membership and the designation FSME (signifying “Fellow, SME”) following their name. Annual nominations must be made by an honorary, fellow, life or member of SME. These nominations are then reviewed and selections made by SME’s International Awards & Recognition Committee.

“The 2014 Class of SME Fellows is a most impressive group of members who have made great strides in advancing manufacturing through their daily work and research and development activities,” said Michael F. Molnar, FSME, CMfgE, PE, 2014 SME president. “Each serves as an inspirational story by their significant technical contributions to the manufacturing profession, and resulting beneficial impact to society.”

SME’s awards committee uses a variety of factors when considering fellows nominations, including requiring a background of 20 plus years of manufacturing-related experience, as well as contributions to the social, technological and educational aspects of the manufacturing and engineering profession.
