SL Power's MB65S AC/DC Power Supply Wins Medical Design Briefs' 2014 Product of the Year Award

VENTURA, Calif. -- SL Power Electronics, a division of SL Industries (NYSE MKT: SLI) and an industry leader in the design and manufacture of rugged, highly reliable power supplies, is pleased to announce that its advanced medical-grade power supply, the MB65S, has won the prestigious 2014 Readers’ Choice Product of the Year award from Medical Design Briefs magazine.

Each month, Medical Design Briefs’ editors select a Product of the Month that has exceptional technical merit and practical value for MDB’s design-engineering readers. At year’s end, the magazine invites readers to choose the most significant engineering creation of those 12 products featured each month. The product with the most votes is named Product of the Year.

“This year, SL Power’s advanced medical-grade power supply, the MB65S, designed to satisfy the newest safety standards for medical devices, was a top vote-getter, earning our magazine’s prestigious honor,” said Beth G. Sisk, editor of Medical Design Briefs. “We are very proud to present the Product of the Year award to SL Power for providing power supplies that allow manufacturers to create the next generation of effective, efficient, and safe medical products.”

“We’re honored to receive this award from Medical Design Briefs, which recognizes the MB65S’s high-level performance and strict adherence to medical device requirements,” said Cochise Mapa, Director of Global Product Management for SL Power Electronics. “The adherence to the New 4th Edition Medical EMC Standard and support of home health care applications with Class B EMI and Class I II Wide Range AC input, makes our MB65S the best in its class.”

The 65-watt single output convection-cooled family of AC/DC power supplies are specifically designed for next-generation medical equipment including patient monitoring, surgical, imaging, home-healthcare devices and laboratory equipment that demand a higher level of EMC, EMI, and AC Input performance. Moreover, its compact size of 2” x 3.5” x 1.3” make it ideal for portable applications.

The MB65S power supplies are approved to AAMI ES/CSA C22.2/EN/IEC60601-1, third edition with 2x Means of Patient Protection (MOPP) and appropriate for type BF isolation applications. The new models feature a universal AC input of 85 to 264Vac and DC output range from 12V to 48V. The family is available in Class I or Class II input configurations. In addition, input/output and temperature monitoring/alarms are standard features of the MB65S family.

The MB65S Medical Series offers eight standard models and features a three-year warranty. The RoHS compliant power supplies meet stringent EMC requirements for applications requiring Class B conducted and Class B radiated EMI performance. In addition, the models are rated at 560,000 hours of calculated Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF). The models are fully approved by International Safety Agencies to the IEC60601-2, 3rd edition safety standard and carry cUL, CAN/CSA, and DEMKO approval markings.
