SK Telecom and Broadcom Enable First 4G LTE Small Cells with Carrier Aggregation Features

Innovative 4G LTE Small Cells Deliver Seamless Mobile Experience

IRVINE, Calif. – Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ: BRCM), a global innovation leader in semiconductor solutions for wired and wireless communications, today announced that SK Telecom, Korea's largest telecommunications company, has selected Broadcom's latest small cell system-on-chip (SoC) devices with carrier aggregation technology to enhance its high-speed 4G LTE services. By leveraging Broadcom's advanced small cell SoC features, SK Telecom can significantly increase overall throughput and extend network coverage and capacity. Broadcom will showcase its innovations for the mobile and carrier ecosystem at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, March 2-5. For more news, visit Broadcom's Newsroom.

By integrating Broadcom's BCM61765 SoCs, SK Telecom will be the first to deploy LTE small cells capable of aggregating two non-contiguous bands, thus increasing bandwidth and data throughout its LTE network. The company completed verification of its Broadcom-enabled small cells using its commercial LTE network this quarter and plans to deploy its enterprise network solutions later this year.

"SK Telecom is making constant efforts to enhance our LTE network and offer a wider range of value added services to our mobile customers," said Park Jin-hyo, SK Telecom Senior Vice President and Head of the Network Technology RD Center. "As a result of Broadcom's superior capabilities in small cell chipset innovation, we can deliver the seamless mobile experience our subscribers have come to expect."

"Our latest generation of residential and triple-mode enterprise baseband processors for small cells provide global carriers with a powerful solution for extending the 4G LTE network," said Greg Fischer, Broadcom Senior Vice President and General Manager, Broadband Carrier Access. "SK Telecom is taking a leadership role in the deployment of small cells to deliver an optimal experience to its customers."

Key Features of the BCM61765 SoC

• Support for both inter-band and intra-band Carrier Aggregation services

• Support for concurrent TD-LTE and FD-LTE services

• Supports concurrent 3G and LTE services, allowing smooth migration between 3G and LTE services

• Low power consumption supporting PoE+ solution simplifying the carrier's deployment.

• Supports advance sniffing/network listing technique for network synchronization and maximize SON benefits

Availability

Broadcom's BCM61765 SoC for metropolitan, enterprise TD-LTE, FD-LTE and 3G multi-mode small cell networks are currently in production. SK Telecom expects to deploy its Broadcom-enabled 4G LTE small cells later this year.
