Siemens Opens Energy Service Center in Nigeria

Orlando, 2016-Sep-22

Siemens has officially opened its new state-of-the-art power generation service center in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. The new facility will support Siemens energy service operations and is the first facility of its kind for Siemens in West, East and Central Africa.

The workshop has been designed to serve the needs of owners and operators of Siemens gas turbines and Dresser Rand (a Siemens Business) compressors in the region. Combining the expertise of both businesses under one roof will also allow for the servicing of service flow valves and non-OEM rotating and reciprocating equipment.

It represents a strategic investment for the global Siemens energy service business in a market with strong potential. With large projects such as the new Azura-Edo power plant coming into operation over the next few years, Siemens' new energy service center in Nigeria is well positioned to provide local support to its utility and industrial power plant customers to help ensure optimal availability and reliability of their energy assets throughout the units' lifetime.

The new Siemens energy service workshop will ensure customers in the region can focus on optimal performance and continuous improvement of their facilities and operations while providing the necessary services to ensure minimum downtime and helping to reduce maintenance costs.

Onyeche Tifase, Managing Director/CEO of Siemens Limited Nigeria, commented, "In Nigeria, our vision has been to create a world-class service facility and workshop environment where excellence is fostered to align with our customers' ever changing needs. It has become even more critical in today's economy to ensure that industrial plants and power generation facilities run at maximum capacity and efficiency over an extended lifecycle. The technical experts and other employees located in the Siemens service workshop are well trained, certified and capable of developing and delivering precisely the right support to ensure maximum results and address all of our customers' service needs."

Phillip Kurney, Vice President of Siemens Power Generation Services, Distributed Generation for Region South and West Europe and Africa, said, "The new Siemens service facility in Nigeria is equipped to repair and overhaul highly sophisticated equipment that would previously have been sent overseas. This will ensure we remain even closer to our customers in the region and can provide greater responsiveness, reduce turnaround time and optimize costs for undertaking maintenance programs."

Future development plans for the workshop include provision of electrical repair services for equipment such as motors, drives, switchgear, transformers, distribution boards, etc. This will enable the establishment a one-stop Service Centre catering to all range of Siemens equipment and solutions across various sectors and industries.
