Siemens/CEPEL Consortium to Supply New Energy Management Systems to Brazil

Erlangen, Germany, 2010-01-25 - Having secured the contract for the REGER project in the face of stiff international competition the task ahead of the Siemens/CEPEL consortium will be the implementation of a standardized monitoring and control platform at four different locations. With the Siemens/CEPEL solution it will be possible to provide flexible, real-time monitoring and control of Brazil's national power transmission network. Four energy management systems will in the future enhance the reliability and performance of Brazil's power supply network. These systems will be installed at the National System Operation Center CNOS in Brasília and at three regional operation centers in Florianópolis, Recife and Rio de Janeiro.

With the new systems ONS will have the advantage of an integrated operating mode, which will enable access to resources and reciprocal support between the four control centers. The project's central Innovative feature is the Evergreen concept. Combining field-proven products such as the Siemens Spectrum PowerCC Information Model Manager and CEPEL's SAGE means that the consortium will be able to continuously update REGER and that ONS will remain competitive over the entire system lifecycle. The project will be executed in two phases lasting 30 and 48 months, respectively.

The international experience accumulated by Siemens with highly complex smart grid projects and CEPEL's local R&D competence in the field of energy management systems will provide ONS with the investment security needed for a project of this magnitude.
