Siemens Awarded $7.2 Million Baggage Screening System Contract for Pensacola Regional Airport

ATLANTA, Sept. 18, 2008 - Siemens today announced it was awarded a $7.2 million design-build contract from Greenhut Construction Co. for a new in-line baggage screening system at the Pensacola Gulf Coast Regional Airport.

The design-build project will apply the design guidelines rolled out by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Siemens will provide 1,436 feet (438 m) of baggage handling conveyor, 11 Siemens patented high-speed diverters, and a screening matrix consisting of three L3 and one CT-80XL Explosive Detection Systems (EDS) and four Vertical Sort Units. Siemens will also provide eight baggage piers for carrier specific sortation and three baggage carousels to replace the existing ones. With the new system, baggage checked at the ticket counter will go through the security screening system, to the baggage piers and then onto the waiting planes in a single continuous, seamless operation.

"The Pensacola Gulf Coast Regional Airport and Greenhut chose Siemens because their design-build capabilities will enable the new system to be compliant with the Planning Guidelines and Design Standards (PGDS) published by the TSA for all new baggage screening systems," said Frank Miller, Pensacola's Airport Director.

"Siemens Airport Logistics is committed to providing Pensacola with the latest technology and equipment to better serve its passengers," said Lee Seward, vice-president, Baggage, Cargo, and Parcels Logistics Sub-Division, Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. "Our project expertise will enable the Pensacola Airport to be PGDS compliant with no impact to the day-to-day traveler."

Pensacola Gulf Coast Regional Airport is the fastest growing airport between New Orleans and Jacksonville. The airport saw more than 1.6 million passengers in 2007 and has experienced more than 40 percent passenger growth since 2001.
