Severn Trent Services Renews $74 Million Florida Governmental Utility Authority Contract
FORT WASHINGTON, Pa. - June 30, 2006 - Severn Trent Services announced it has renewed its contract with the Florida Governmental Utility Authority (FGUA) to operate and maintain four water and wastewater systems owned by the Florida Governmental Utility Authority (FGUA) for a term of five years. The $74 million contract began on June 1 and includes an additional five-year option.
The contract, an extension of Severn Trent's 2003 contract, has been expanded to encompass the Citrus, Poinciana, Golden Gate and Lehigh Acres systems, comprising 24 water treatment plants, 11 wastewater treatment plants, 63 water wells, and over 650 miles of water mains. Severn Trent will be responsible for operations and maintenance of each system's water supply; wastewater collection, treatment and disposal systems; treatment and distribution services; and full customer service ranging from reading more than 54,000 meters to generating billing statements for over 57,000 FGUA accounts.
In March, the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners approved the $30 million purchase of the Citrus Utility System from the FGUA, who originally purchased the system in 2003. "Severn Trent's pricing accounted for this possibility, with no demobilization costs included in our proposal," noted Dana Kaas, vice president, Contract Operations. "Our success in renewing this contract is a direct result of teamwork from all corners of the company, including business development personnel, our technical and support services groups, legal partners, and senior management. Our persistence clearly paid off."
