Senator Enzi Honored as BIO Legislator of the Year



WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) announced today its selection of Senator Michael Enzi (R-WY) as Legislator of the Year for 2009-2010. Senator Enzi received the award as part of the BIO Legislative Day Fly-In.

"During Senator Enzi's long-standing service on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, he has provided thoughtful and responsive leadership on issues critical to the biotechnology community such as drug safety and importation," BIO President Jim Greenwood stated. "He played a key role in the creation of a fair and balanced pathway for the approval of biosimilars which protects patient safety and provides incentives for continued innovation."

More than 200 biotechnology industry representatives from 32 states will participate in hundreds of meetings with Members of the House and Senate during the BIO Legislative Day Fly-In. Participants will discuss issues critical to the biotechnology industry including patent reform, NIH/ FDA funding, drug importation risks, and improved eligibility for Small Business Innovation Research grants.
