Seica Showcases Simplicity in Selective Soldering

Salem, NH, September 2007 - Seica Inc., a leading electronics test and assembly solution OEM, will showcase the Firefly, a laser selective soldering system, within its VIVA Integrated Platform(TM) in order to meet the challenges of today's focus on automation.

Seica's products meet the GEM (Generic Model for Communication and Control of Manufacturing Equipment) Standard. In addition, the mechanical interface on these products also adheres to the SMEMA (Surface Mount Equipment Manufacturer's Association) Standard.

The latest addition to Seica's growing portfolio, the Firefly, concentrates all the power and control of laser technology into the automated selective soldering process. Based on Seica's VIP(TM) architecture, Firefly simplifies the generation, verification and operation of any soldering program, while its flexibility and performance can be further optimized through additional software tools. Thermal control, so essential to the soldering process, is guaranteed by an integrated temperature control system that provides continuous feedback during the soldering process and displays thermal profiles clearly in real time. Equipped with a SMEMA board conveyor system, Firefly can also be integrated easily into any production line.

Simplicity in Selective Soldering

Starting from CAD/CAM files, the Firefly software automatically extracts the coordinates of the points to be soldered, along with all the other geometrical information used by the internal algorithms to set up the thermal profile, laser spot dimensions and soldering angles, and then to generate the soldering program. The software also allows the user to create a program manually, aided by the integrated vision system and the interactive guided editor provided by the VIVA software environment. The editing environment also allows the user to modify the thermal profile and the other variables of each solder joint at any time, according to changing requirements.
