Seco to Showcase Powerful Machining Solutions for Modern Materials at AeroDef

TROY, Mich. - At the AeroDef Manufacturing Conference and Exhibition,
co-located with Composites Manufacturing 2013, taking place March 19 - 21 at the Long
Beach Convention Center in California, Seco Tools will showcase several advanced
tooling solutions for the efficient and precise milling and turning of difficult-to-machine aerospace materials in booth 132.

Whether AeroDef attendees are manufacturing engine components, landing gear or
airframe structures from superalloys, titanium alloys, steels, aluminum or composites,
they will discover Seco has one of the industry's most comprehensive selections of
advanced tools for productively machining any type of aerospace part.

Attendees will also benefit from Seco's aerospace machining applications expertise and
learn how the company works closely with its aerospace customers to produce completely new technologies that optimize their processes.

Among the solutions Seco will have on display at AeroDef are High Feed 2 milling tools,
Jabro(TM) JHP770 and JHP780 end mills, the Jabro JC850 ball nose cutter, Jetstream
Tooling(TM), the Secomax(TM) CBN170 grade, the CBN010 grade, TH grades and ME geometries.

High Feed 2 Milling Tools

Offering high feed rates and small depths of cut, High Feed 2 milling tools handle a wide variety of applications, including pocketing, ramping, helical interpolation, facing, contouring, slotting and plunging. The line includes a comprehensive range of PVD and CVD insert grades for hard steels up to 62 HRc and a wide variety of chip groove and flat geometries to tackle several different types of materials, including superalloys.

Jabro JHP770 and JHP780 End Mills

The Jabro JHP770 and JHP780 are solid carbide end mills that offer high metal removal
rates with secure, chatter-free machining in roughing applications. The JHP770 is ideal
for machining in titanium, while the JHP780 focuses on heat-resistant superalloys.
JHP770 features include differential flute spacing to avoid vibrations, polished Siron-A coating for increased tool life, optimized edge preparation, radial relief, special formed chip space and an internal central coolant channel. JHP780 features include differential flute spacing to avoid vibrations, a polished Mega 64 coating to increase tool life and a double core for added machining stability.

Jabro JC850 Ball Nose Cutter

Designed for machining carbon fiber reinforced polymers, the JC850 is a four-flute ball
nose end mill for 3D operations. It features a CVD diamond coating that yields low
surface roughness and high substrate adhesion, making it very wear resistant when
working in composite materials.

Jetstream Tooling

Jetstream Tooling channels coolant directly to the insert, removing heat from the
cutting zone for higher cutting speeds, longer tool life, improved chip control and
increased productivity overall. Because it removes heat from the cutting zone faster and more efficiently than conventional methods, Jetstream Tooling is ideal for machining materials that are poor conductors of heat, such as titanium and superalloys.

Secomax CBN170 Grade

As the first polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) grade specifically designed for
finish turning in nickel-based superalloys, the Secomax CBN170 incorporates a unique
whisker ceramic binder technology that enhances tool life and reduces insert indexes.

CBN010 Grade

Ideal for turning in hardened steels, the CBN010 is a new uncoated PCBN grade that
has a highly uniform microstructure with a high resistance to edge chipping. It is mainly intended for finishing operations and is available in solid, full face, tipped and multitipped insert formats, all of which include several wiper options.

TH Grades

The TH1000 and TH1500 grades are ideal for turning hard materials. TH1000 utilizes a
TiSiN-TiAIN nanolayer PVD coating to enhance its edge toughness and provide supreme
surface finishes. The combination of properties in TH1000 makes it ideal for turning
steels with a hardness between 40 and 62 HRc. TH1500 is a very hard grade for
machining hardened steels, between 40 and 55 HRc, in continuous cut applications. It
incorporates exclusive Duratomic® coating technology where aluminum and oxygen are
manipulated at the atomic level to create a coating with unmatched toughness.

ME Geometries

ME geometries make it possible for Seco's Double Octomill(TM) face milling cutter to cut
freer in tough materials such as titanium, superalloys and Inconel. These geometries do
not include T-lands and only their edges are honed.
