Sealed Air Receives Third-Party Recycled Content Certification

Scientific Certification Systems' Independent Research Verifies Company's
Sustainability Leadership

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Demonstrating Sealed Air's commitment to sustainability, the Ethafoam® MRC and Ethafoam® HRC recycled content polyethylene foams, produced in the Grand Prairie, TX facility, have received Recycled Material Content certification from Scientific Certification Systems, a leading independent environmental claims verification organization.

SCS' certification for Ethafoam® MRC (maximum recycled content), containing
95 percent recycled content by total weight (100 percent of the resin is recycled content), and Ethafoam® HRC (high recycled content), containing a minimum of 65 percent recycled resin content, provides independent, third-party verification of Sealed Air's recycled content assertions regarding the two recently-launched specialty polyethylene foams.

"This certification offers the marketplace validation that when we say we will partner with our customers to manufacture products that provide performance while remaining sensitive to the environment, that's exactly what we will do," said Lewis Smith, global product line director, Sealed Air Specialty Foams. "We're also proud to be the first polyethylene foam supplier to receive this certification."

To earn SCS certification for Recycled Content, manufacturers must meet and maintain strict guidelines detailed in SCS' program standards manual. These include factors such as documentation of source traceability as well as clear processes for segregation of conforming/non-conforming materials. For each product under consideration, manufacturers must supply extensive process data, as well as host mandatory on-site visits for SCS personnel to review and verify all pertinent processes.

Ethafoam® MRC (maximum recycled content) and Ethafoam® HRC (high recycled content) were developed in response to heightened demand for packaging alternatives that enhance overall sustainability and in keeping with Sealed Air's company-wide SmartLife(TM) sustainability initiative. These newly available products each were created in partnership with Sealed Air customers, demonstrating the company's collaborative approach to developing packaging solutions that meet market needs and protect the environment. Both products are components of a suite of sustainable solutions tailored to packaging/shipping products such as electronics, automotive parts, hardware and many more.
