Sciaky to Showcase its Groundbreaking Direct Manufacturing Solution at FABTECH 2010
Chicago, Illinois - Sciaky, Inc., a world-renowned supplier of electron beam, advanced arc and resistance welding systems, will show how manufacturers can save money and boost efficiency with Sciaky's Direct Manufacturing (DM) solution at FABTECH 2010, North America's largest metal forming, fabricating and welding event.
Sciaky's DM solution is the first commercially-available, large-scale, fully-programmable means of achieving near-net shape parts. The solution utilizes Sciaky's electron beam welding technology to produce functional prototypes and production parts at a fraction of the cost of traditional manufacturing methods. Starting with a 3D model from a CAD program, Sciaky's fully-articulated, moving electron beam gun deposits metal, layer by layer, until the desired shape is produced. From there, the part undergoes finish-machining. Deposition rates can range from 15 to 40 pounds of metal per hour, depending on the material and application.
"Sciaky's DM solution deposits material only where needed, reducing the amount of starting material required and significantly reducing finish-machining time," said Mike Riesen, General Manager of Sciaky, Inc. "The DM process uses no hard tooling, so a new design may require only a few changes to the CNC program."
