Sciaky to Feature Exclusive Direct Manufacturing (DM) Process at AeroMat 2010
Chicago, Illinois - Sciaky, Inc., a world-renowned supplier of electron beam, advanced arc and resistance welding systems, will show how aerospace manufacturers can save money and boost productivity by utilizing Sciaky's exclusive Direct Manufacturing (DM) process at the AeroMat 2010 Conference and Exposition. The event, which is held at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue, Washington June 21-24, is the leading materials conference and exposition for aerospace materials engineers, structural engineers and designers.
Sciaky's DM process provides the first fully programmable means of achieving near-net shape parts, using many of the high performance alloys common to the aerospace industry. The process utilizes Sciaky's state-of-the art electron beam welding technology to produce functional prototypes and production parts at a fraction of the cost of traditional manufacturing methods. Starting with a 3D model from a CAD program, Sciaky's fully-articulated, moving electron beam gun deposits metal, layer by layer, until the part is complete. Depending on the part being manufactured, deposition rates can range from 15 to 40 pounds of metal per hour.
