RIA Announces Martin L. King Scholarship Events at Annual Leadership Summit & Industry Expo

Rockville, MD - The 67th Annual Restoration Industry Association (RIA) Annual Leadership Summit and Industry Expo will take place at the Sheraton Myrtle Beach Convention Center and Hotel in Myrtle Beach, S.C., from March 27-29. Early bird registration ends on March 2nd, and prices will increase by $200 after that date.

RIA will be holding two special events at the convention which will serve as fundraisers for the newly established Martin L. King Scholarship Program. King, who served as the RIA technical advisor for close to 40 years and created the industry's eminent Certified Restorer® program, retired last year after spending decades teaching restoration contractors about the various aspects of restoration. The Martin L. King Scholarship program will begin providing scholarships in 2013 to restoration professionals who seek to expand their knowledge of the different facets of the industry.

A golf tournament will be held on Tuesday, March 27th at the Myrtlewood Golf Club from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A portion of the tournament fees will go to the Martin L. King Scholarship Program.

The RIA Awards Dinner & Banquet will highlight the accomplishments of RIA's advanced certificants, honor those who have given countless hours of service to the organization, recognize those who have demonstrated excellence in their field of restoration, and pay tribute to a man who has made an indelible impression on the practice of restoration. A tribute to Martin King will be presented during the banquet, which will also serve as a fundraiser for the Martin L. King Scholarship program. Both the golf tournament and the banquet require an additional registration fee to attend.

"Martin King has contributed a great deal to this industry and many professionals have benefited from his knowledge over the years. This scholarship program is one way RIA can honor those efforts and recognize a man who has been a true pioneer and educator in this field," said RIA President Frank Headen, CR, WLS, CMH.
