Schaeffler ASEAN Celebrates 25th Anniversary

SINGAPORE, March 8, 2006. Products from the Schaeffler Group are incorporated in many moving things, including vehicles, aircraft turbines, electrical appliances, motorbikes and power tools. Since 1975, the Schaeffler Group has been present in Singapore with its world brand FAG and in 1980 it established an independent local subsidiary. For this reason, the company now celebrates its 25th anniversary in ASEAN together with high-profile representatives from politics, industry and society.

At the beginning of this year, the Schaeffler Group with its three brands INA (needle roller bearings, linear systems and engine components), FAG (rolling bearings and services) and LuK (clutches and transmission components) moved into its new offices in Singapore. "The Schaeffler Group attaches great importance to the Singapore location as ASEAN is a growth region with excellent future potential," Dr. Juergen M. Geissinger, President and CEO of the Schaeffler Group, emphasized during the anniversary celebration at the beginning of March. The company also used this occasion to introduce its wide product and performance spectrum in the form of a customer conference. "We closely follow our 'In the region - for the region' strategy. Our clients benefit from our customer-oriented, innovative development services and our comprehensive product range," Dr. Geißinger pointed out.

Exhibits from Schaeffler's X-life premium segment were among the highlights for the industrial sector. This hallmark of quality designates rolling bearing and linear guidance solutions whose quality exceeds previous parameters by far. Among other things, these products can operate at an especially low noise level, require little or no maintenance and are able to accommodate heavy loads. For instance, "X-life ultra" bearing supports for motor spindles were developed for machine tools operating in extremely arduous environmental conditions such as high temperatures or high humidity. The automotive division's latest innovations were also presented at the conference. They are used in modern six-speed transmissions or engines. These precision components, such as modern valve gears, reduce fuel consumption and car emissions while ensuring higher driving dynamics.

For more than 100 years, the traditional FAG brand has stood for a range of high-grade rolling bearings and worldwide proximity to customers. As early as 1975, FAG founded a Singapore rep office in the up-and-coming region, which was transformed into an independent subsidiary five years later and has seen substantial growth in the meantime. "Today we are present at numerous locations in Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia," states Bernhard Brehm, Managing Director of the Schaeffler Group in Singapore. "This enables us to work together with our customers directly in situ. Not only do we supply products but also all related services - from consultation all the way through to reconditioning. This offers our customers enormous added value."

With approx. 60,000 employees at more than 180 locations worldwide and consolidated sales of 7.2bn (2004), the Schaeffler Group is a leading global bearing manufacturer and automotive component supplier. Group members are Schaeffler KG with its two brands INA and FAG, headquartered in Herzogenaurach, and the LuK Group which is based in Buehl/Baden. The Industrial Division provides bearing solutions to some 60 different industrial segments via its Production Machinery, Heavy Industry, Power Transmission & Railway and Consumer Products business sectors.
