Scaffold Crew Celebrates Seven Years Incident-Free at CITGO Site
The ThyssenKrupp Safway crew at the CITGO Lake Charles Manufacturing Complex has worked nearly seven years onsite without an incident.
"Our employees and the CITGO site management team have accepted safety as a core value that they are not willing to compromise at any cost. I believe this is what sets them apart," said ThyssenKrupp Safway Regional Safety Manager Patrick Hagan. "The branch management and the employees at CITGO, Lake Charles, set the standard by which others should be measured."
With more than 2,300 incident-free days behind them, the Safway yard crew at the Lake Charles complex is focused on maintaining a safe job site while handling more than 5,000 pieces of equipment each day.
"This is a phenomenal accomplishment given the volume of inventory that is handled on a daily basis," said Lake Charles Branch Manager Earl Bennett.
"The Safway crew is part of a culture that promotes and implements the necessary changes to ensure our safety values are not compromised. This culture comes through training, continuing education, company support and understanding that each employee has a voice."
CITGO's Lake Charles complex spans approximately 2,000 acres and employs more than 1,200 at its petroleum refinery. CITGO's Lake Charles Refinery is the fourth largest in the country and produces as much as 440,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
