Sandvik to Present Corrosion Resistant Alloys for Longer Service Lifecycles at NACE CORROSION 2015

Sandvik will join NACE International and fellow corrosion professionals at the world’s largest corrosion conference and exhibition CORROSION 2015 in Dallas, Texas, between March 15-19, to help visitors address the growing importance of selecting new and more cost-effective stainless steels that can provide improved levels of corrosion resistance in high temperature, high chloride environments.

As well as exhibiting its full range of advanced corrosion resistant alloys at Booth Number 21043, including duplex and super-duplex grades, the company will host an exclusive presentation on hyper-duplex stainless steels including Sandvik SAF 3207™ (UNS S33207) which has been developed to combine high strength in the solution annealed condition, with localized corrosion resistance properties that are better than super-duplex grades.

Sandvik SAF 3207™ can be utilized for OCTG tubing, raw seawater injection, umbilicals and other applications where high strength and thinner walls, combined with improved resistance to chloride induced corrosion and cracking and high temperature, high chloride environments is needed.

Magnus Olaison, Senior Development Engineer, Oil Gas Tube, Sandvik Materials Technology, who will deliver the presentation, said, “We are very excited to showcase our high performance, corrosion resistant alloys to the anticipated turnout of more than 7,000 corrosion professionals at CORROSION 2015. It’s an invaluable opportunity to explain how hyper-duplex grades like Sandvik SAF 3207™ are helping customers to achieve safer operations in downhole applications, as well as a high corrosion resistance in aerated seawater environments, for greatly reduced costs, maintenance and downtime.

Tests in accordance with NACE TM0177 found that Sandvik SAF 3207™ performs at higher H2S partial pressures than the present limit in the NACE MR0175 standard for super duplex. With a Pitting Resistant Equivalent Number (PREN) of 50, over the current limit for duplex material which is PREN 40 to 45, the hyper-duplex grade exhibited no cracks or signs of corrosion at pressures of up to 5 psi H2S.

Further information about Sandvik advanced corrosion resistant alloys is available at its new online Knowledge Center which hosts white papers and other useful documents relating to corrosion and applications. Users can sign up for the Knowledge Center at http://smt.sandvik.com/en/offshore-oil-and-gas/signup-to-newsletter/.

Sandvik applies more than 150 years of experience in producing stainless steels towards developing its extensive program of advanced corrosion resistant alloys. Products such as umbilicals, hydraulic and instrumentation tubes, coiled workover tubing, composite tubes, boiler tubes, finned tubes and thermocouples will be among those on display at CORROSION 2015.
