Saab Showcases New AESA Naval Radar
SYRACUSE, N.Y., – Saab Defense and Security USA LLC showcased its newest solid-state naval radar system, the SEA GIRAFFE 4A, at the Surface Navy Association's 2016 National Symposium. The display showed how the radar performs simultaneous air and surface surveillance and tracking in rotating and staring modes.
SEA GIRAFFE 4A is an S-band, multi-mission, active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar. It has a 360-degree rocket, artillery and mortar locator; target designation for long-range, surface-to-air missiles; the capability to classify both hovering and moving helicopters; and an enhanced low, slow and small (ELSS) function, which detects and classifies unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The product is fully developed, with the first production system delivery on track for 2016.

As the design authority for the U.S. Navy's AN/SPS-77 SEA GIRAFFE radar, Saab Defense and Security USA supports all aspects of the system, including shipboard radar installation and at-sea operation onboard the INDEPENDENCE class Littoral Combat Ship (LCS).
SEA GIRAFFE 4A's first demo in the United States took place November of 2015 at Saab Defense and Security USA's radar test facility in Syracuse, New York. Saab's Syracuse division maintains radar design and production capability, trains U.S. Navy personnel on radar operation and maintenance, provides 24/7 customer support, and manages a depot in support of the AN/SPS-77 radars.
