Ruukki to Showcase Energy-efficient Specialized Steels at CIM EXPO 2014

TORONTO –

WHO: Steel company Ruukki [http://www.ruukki.com, which recently launched [http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/energy-efficient-finnish-steel-maker-ruukki-launches-north-american-operations-232490781.html in the North American steel market, is showcasing its ultra-high-strength and abrasion-resistant steel products at the EXPO! of CIM 2014 Convention [http://vancouver2014.cim.org. CIM is the leading technical society of professionals in the Canadian Minerals, Metals, Materials and Energy Industries. Ruukki is also a corporate member of CIM.

Ruukki's North American headquarters are in Toronto. Ruukki executives based in Canada and available to speak with the media during the show include:

• Josu Pina, Vice President, Special Steel Sales, Americas, Ruukki

• Peter Tuomi, Country Manager, Ruukki Canada

WHAT: Ruukki will showcase samples of its Raex [http://www.ruukki.com/raex® abrasion-resistant steel. Raex provides hardness and impact toughness best suited for mining equipment, bucket trucks and containers, platform structures, feeders and other high-wear applications. Raex steel can withstand wear and surface pressure, and the range has been expanded to include the thicker wear-resistant steels needed in the mining industry.

Ruukki will have on-hand samples of its Optim [http://www.ruukki.com/Products-and-solutions/Steel-products/Hot-rolled-steels/Structural-steels/Optim-MC-structural-steel ® high-strength steels. The new grade of Optim steel - Optim 700 QL1 - was recently launched in the Canadian market. Optim 700 QL1 is a structural steel with improved impact strength properties, which has been impact tested at a temperature at about -74° (s) F (-60° (s) C).

The strength and impact toughness of Optim steel ensures the load-bearing capacity of even the most demanding lifting equipment and meets the applicable safety criteria also at low temperatures. The steel is ideal for use in very demanding conditions and at sub-zero temperatures of the mining industry.

Ruukki has established stock of Raex and Optim steel located in Ontario and Alberta to serve its customers across Canada.

Ruukki offers local technical customer service and application support to help customers select the right steels, improve production processes and optimize materials for their products.

Ruukki pioneered the use of direct quenching technology. This breakthrough enables the energy-efficient manufacture of high-strength and wear-resistant Ruukki steels using hot-rolled steel quenched at about 1650°F (900°(s) C) to ambient temperature immediately after rolling. This saves energy because the reheating stage after hot-rolling is omitted.
