Roller Bearing Made of Solvay's KetaSpire® PEEK Delivers Strong Chemical Resistance and Reduced Friction

ALPHARETTA, Ga. - Roller bearings produced by Link Upon Advanced Material Corp., Taipei, Taiwan, are made of KetaSpire® polyetheretherketone (PEEK) resin from Solvay Specialty Polymers for strong chemical resistance, high heat deflection temperature, low creep, and exceptional dimensional stability. Link Upon's roller bearing is widely used in a range of processing machinery for the food, medical, chemical, and industrial markets.

The PEEK roller bearing is used in conjunction with ceramic balls to drive an automatic shaft. As the roller bearing rotates, it causes the ceramic balls to rotate as well with very little stiffness and minimal friction. KetaSpire® PEEK's low coefficient of linear thermal expansion (CLTE) helps to ensure strong dimensional stability and tight tolerances. PEEK roller bearings are also more durable than those made of competing materials like stainless steel.

Due to the superior properties of KetaSpire® PEEK, the roller bearing product can be employed in high-heat environments up to 240°C (464°F) relative thermal index (RTI). In addition, the material's excellent corrosion resistance allows for smooth rotation in moderate acid-alkali environments. The PEEK roller bearings come in a range of sizes from 26 mm/1.0 in. (inner diam. 10 mm/0.39 in.) by 8 mm/0.31 in. to 72 mm/2.83 in. (inner diam. 35 mm/1.38 in.) by 17 mm/0.67 in.

KetaSpire® PEEK is one of the industry's most chemically resistant plastics and also offers excellent strength, superior fatigue resistance, and a heat deflection temperature (HDT) up to 315°C (599°F). It also provides excellent long-term thermal oxidative stability, continuous use temperature up to 240°C (464°F), and outstanding chemical resistance to organics, acids, bases, and steam/hot water.

Link Upon injection molds the part and then machines the final product.
