Roger A. Jones Receives the MTI 2009 Distinguished Service Award


Souderton, Pa. - Corporate President of Solar Atmospheres Roger A. Jones has won the prestigious 2009 Distinguished Service Award from the Metal Treating Institute. The award was bestowed on October 10th at MTI's Annual Fall Meeting, held this year in Hilton Head Island, SC.

The MTI's Distinguished Service Award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding, significant, and well-recognized contributions of lasting importance to the Heat Treating Industry. Tom Morrison, CEO of the MTI, reports, "This award, presented by the Metal Treating Institute, was given to Roger Jones of Solar Atmospheres for his many years of exemplary service and contributions to MTI and to the heat treating industry. Roger has played a role in designing technical programs at Furnaces North America, served on numerous committees for MTI, and is now starting his second stint on the Board of Trustees." In addition to the many positions he has held for the Metal Treating Institute, Jones served as President in 2004-2005.

Roger A. Jones has served as Corporate President of Solar Atmospheres Inc. for the past 16 years. The company, headquartered in Souderton, Pennsylvania, recently celebrated over 25 years of innovation in the thermal processing industry, and maintains plants in both Eastern and Western Pennsylvania, as well as offices in Southern California. Today, Solar Atmospheres Incorporated is the largest, privately owned vacuum heat treating company in the country, widely recognized for its world class quality and innovative vacuum heat treating solutions.

In his acceptance speech, Jones shared the award with his employees and colleagues, stating, "When someone wins an award like this, it is never just one person. I want to thank the entire Solar Atmospheres team for their hard work that contributed to my receiving this award and allowed me to have the time to devote to the MTI, and also to the ASM. " Jones went on to acknowledge the members of MTI for their personal support and involvement, saying that, to him, "The MTI is really a big family."

Jones concluded by thanking his wife of 34 years, Patti Jones, for her faithful support. In keeping with the family affair, it is noted that Jones' father, William R. Jones, CEO of Solar Atmospheres Inc, is a prior recipient of the MTI Distinguished Service Award, honored in the year 2000.
